Organizational culture change
Attendance and disability management
We teach our clients new ways of thinking about and managing attendance in the workplace. Relying on long experience with difficult workplace cultures, Montana Consulting Group has developed logical, practical, and legally defensible systems for reinstating a sense that employees have a duty to come to work when they are able.
Our work in this area includes policy development, collective agreement analysis and bargaining strategy, staff and supervisory training, dealing with human rights implications, case management, and development of orientation and employment agreement content.
Montana Consulting Group is currently exploring a partnership with a major Canadian group benefits provider to develop a comprehensive attendance management, tracking, and disability management service for clients.Creating accountability
Because people generally do what they think they have to do, employers should explicitly state what their managers are accountable for, and should align their performance management systems with the resulting accountability model.
At Montana Consulting Group, we work with a model of management accountability that was first developed by Canadian psychiatrist and management guru Dr. Elliott Jaques [whom Montana president knew personally and corresponded with for many years].
We help clients re-think was a “good job” really entails, and we tailor the policies and practices of the workplace to support genuine and fair accountability.Respectful workplaces
Montana conducts audits of policies and practices on request to measure the effectiveness of respectful workplace policies and compliance with human rights law. We develop effective policies to ensure that employees have the ability to come to work free from discrimination, harassment, or bullying, and produce and deliver customized respectful workplace training programs.
Through partnerships with investigators, we can assist clients faced with human rights allegations to get to the bottom of the matter and to decide what actions are needed.Policy development
Your desired workplace culture is molded in large part by your HR policies. Too often, HR policy is driven by a risk-avoidant legal mindset. The cost can be an oppressive workplace, where management “manages down” to the few bad apples in the group. Our policies build trust and employee engagement.
We work with your management team [and, where appropriate, consult with employees and unions] to develop the HR policies and guidelines that will let your organization develop a high-performance culture. We help you find the right balance between positive leadership and sound business management.
We ensure that all policies work in the context of the legal jurisdictions under which they fall.
